After 24 years of service to East Texans, Sharon Shaw, administrator of the Angelina County & Cities Health District (ACCHD), will be retiring from full-time public health duties.

Shaw and Financial Director Rosalind McAdams have worked passionately with the team at ACCHD to bring quality public health services, informed health guidance and accessible health care programs to the citizens of Angelina County and East Texas. The future of ACCHD is a priority for Shaw, and she has worked diligently with her team to secure ongoing funding from a variety of state, public and private sources.

“I am honored and forever blessed to have served in this role and pray that the Health District continues to serve and improve the lives of East Texans as a cornerstone of the Angelina County social service and medical community,” Shaw said.

ACCHD has served an essential role in Angelina County’s public health outreach, especially in the last few years. The Health District successfully transitioned the WIC Program into a new building, courtesy of a gift from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation. ACCHD also relocated the Kid’s Care Program to larger office spaces within the existing ACCHD building, allowing them to expand well-child services for lower-income and Medicaid families.

Shaw touts the culture at ACCHD as a “family first” environment that attracts and retains quality staff members. More than half of the 55 staff members have been a part of ACCHD for more than eight years, and several staff members have more than 20 years of dedication and service to the Health District’s mission.

Shaw’s retirement comes in concert with other changes at ACCHD. The Health District is ending a management agreement with St. Luke’s Health Memorial that has been in place for more than 25 years. Former Medical Director Dr. John Rudis recently retired, bringing on board Dr. Kindrell Tucker as his replacement. Jeremy Willis has been named the new Health District attorney after a recommendation by Jimmy Cassels, the former Health District attorney who is now judge of County Court at Law No. 2.
